With barely four days left for the commencement of the much anticipated national Sprite Ball Championship, all the forty four (44) schools are putting the finishing touches together ahead of the tournament this weekend.
Thirty six (36) senior high schools and six private schools will compete for the ultimate diadem at the El-wak stadium on Saturday and Sunday as all roads lead to the venue.
The regional qualifiers produced some shocking and astonishing results at the six regional capitals as each of the schools took their turn to compete for the rights to participate in the grand finale.
The grand finale will be robbed of great schools like Accra Academy, St Augustines College, St Louis girls, St Mary’s girls, Accra girls’ school and many others who pressed the exit button in their respective regional qualifiers.
The El-Wak stadium will be the centre of attraction as thousands of crazy basketball fans congregate to witness great basketball artistry coupled with some sublime piece of adroitness and talents at display.
Akosombo International School (boys), Pope Johns Senior High (Pojoss) and Koforidua Secondary Technical School (K.S.T.S) will represent the Eastern region alongside Nkawkaw Senior High girls (Kawsec), Akosombo Interntional School (girls) and Aburi girls.
The line up from the Ashanti region is made up of Kumasi Technical Institute boys (K.T.I) and perrrenial rivals Prempeh College and Opoku Ware while a highly unpretentious Supreme Toase triumphed in the garden city together with Kumasi Wesley girls and Yaa Asantewaa girls will represent the region at the El-Wak Stadium during ther two-day tournament.
The Volta Region will boast of schools like champions Keta Senior High (boys), Keta Business School and Kpando Technical Institute while their female counterpart will comprise of Nkwanta Senior High, Awudome School and Kajebi Asatu.
Traditional rivals Mfantsipim and Adisadel College will renew hostilities at the championship after both booked their ticket for the grand finale alongside Cape Coast Technical School who dumped out another old boy St Augustines College. Agrrey Memorial (girls) redrafted history by recording a famous victory over regional and national girl’s champions Wesley girls at the Schools and Colleges Park at Cape Coast. Apam and Insaaniya Schools complete the cast of teams that qualified for the national event in Accra.
Elsewhere, Ghana Secondary Technical School (G.S.T.S), Ahantaman and Takoradi Technical Institute wil hold the flag of the pride of Western very high after gaining entry to participate to play at the grand finale. The best they say comes from the west and the girls from Fijai, Porter School and Shama School will also be strong contenders for the title.
Finally, the Greater Accra region will parade schools like Kinbu, Presec – Legon and Armed Forces Senior High while Temasco, Sacred Hearts and Social Advance will complete the final list from the girls division.
The battle line has been drawn and the El-Wak stadium will be the decider this weekend.
