The chips have fallen in place and the Northern regional capital of Tamale will host the final regional qualifiers of the 2010 Sprite Ball Championship on Saturday.

The competition which takes place on the campus of Ghana Secondary School (Ghanasco) for the first since its begun some five years ago will see 16 teams battle for honours and the right to represent the region in the grand-finale on December 22-23rd at the El-Wak Stadium.

Host Ghanasco and perennial rivals Tamale Senior High are the favourite for the title due to their pedigree in the region as far as the game is concerned.

But they’ll obviously face stiff opposition from St Charles Minor Seminary, Damango, Islamic Senior High and Northern School of Business (Nobisco).

There are also the likes of Tamale Girls International, Kalpohin Senior High among others who are primed to cause a major upset in the Northern part of the West African country.

The wait is now over as the participating schools gather their loins to either make history or add up to the numbers at the main basketball court of Ghana Secondary School on Saturday December 4, 2010.

It was fairly tale story last weekend in both the Western and Central regional as the participating schools produced some eye-catching displays in front of a packed crowd at the campus of Ghana Secondary Technical School (G.S.T.S) and the Schools and Colleges Park respectively.

In the end it was total dominance for G.S.T.S and Fijai Girls who have now earned the right to represent the region for the second time in a row.

Mfantsipim made it ‘triple’ joy by defeating rivals Adisadel College in the boy’s division in the Central region as Aggrey Memorial killed of the challenge of twice national champions Wesley Girls.

Already 30 schools have booked their ticket in the grand finale with Greater Accra having the highest number of schools -6, following successes for National champions Armed Forces and Sacred Heart in the region.

The battle line has been drawn and Tamale will come alive on Saturday as thousands of fans get ready to witness one of the biggest basketball games in the region.
