MFANTSIPIM AND SACRED HEART SET TO SCOOP TOP AWARDS

Mfantsipim and Sacred Heart Senior High School have been penciled for two big awards following their exploits in the 2010 Sprite Ball Championship.

The two schools have been named as the best Basketball Youth Team of the year in both the boys and girls category in a gong organized by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

The Cape-Coast based school enjoyed an incredible run in the 2010 Sprite Ball Championship where they went unbeaten in both the regional qualifiers and the grand-finale.

They won the competition in the Central region for an unprecedented third time in a row and capped an incredible run in the season by lifting the grand-finale for the first time in the competition’s 5th year history.

It was a great basketball year for one of the biggest senior high schools in Ghana and their performance has not gone unnoticed.

Chief handler for Sacred Heart Patience Kumah took the shine off Ruby in 2010 as she inspired her school to dominate the headlines in the 2010 Sprite Ball Championship in both the regional and National event.

Sacred Heart beat Tema Senior High (Temasco) in the girls final to lift the title in the Greater Accra region for the first time before producing one of the biggest comebacks in the competition’s history to defeat 2008 bridesmaid Aggrey Memorial to clinch the title in the grand finale for the second successive time.

The two schools are expected to be honoured at the 36th edition of the SWAG Awards Night later in the year.

It’s another milestone chalked by Rite-Multimedia who’re the organizers of the prestigious high school basketball competition.

It will be recalled the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Yaw Sakyi Afari, received a special award from SWAG for his immense contribution to the development of the game in the West African Country last year.
