Listless Air Force power past Kotoka to lift 2011 G/A Milo JBC

Air Force Basic School clinched the 2011 Milo Junior Ball Championship with a riveting performance against Kotoka Prim. & JHS on Monday.

The young boys from Burma-camp displayed sheer bravado to outplay their opponent in a one sided final game at the Aviation Social Centre in front of a historic crowd beating them 12-2 in two halves.

The newly crowned champions began the journey to glory with a sweet flowing game coupled with aggression and firepower on the offensive to beat debutant New Creation 15-0 in the groups opening game before back-back success over Coach Mathias Ocloo’s St Joseph set up a quarter-final berth with last year’s bridesmaid Garrison Preparatory and Junior High School.

They dispatched them with a comfortable but a low score of 7-0 after which they managed a 13-12 road show over the impressive Ghana Lebanon and Islamic School at the semi-final stage.

The final cliff hanger against their perennial rivals Kotoka Prim. & JHS was a delight to watch as they played with so much determination and focus in both halves. Young and enterprising Desmond Amoah was the star man for the side with transcendent piece of skills on the court that sent the thousands of crazy fans into rapturous jubilation anytime his hands touched the ball.

Kotoka will feel down by following a roller coaster run in the games on Monday. They managed successes over Ridge Church, Cosmos, Achimota and Base Workshop before they finally succumbed to Air Force in an embarrassing 12-2 defeat silencing their vociferous supporters who had made the short trip to the Aviation Social Centre.

Ghana Lebanon and Islamic School grabbed the bronze on technical grounds while Ridge Church scooped the fourth place finish to cement their qualification for the grand finale on Saturday March 19 2011.

Interestingly the top six schools in the Greater Accra region that also includes Kalvary Preparatory and Garrison have all booked their place in the grand finale to be staged on March 19 at the Aviation Social Centre.

Meanwhile the young girls from SOS-Tema won the choreography competition while Achimota Preparatory and Junior High School came second with 2010 champions Cosmos School complex placing third in a fiercest contested competition.

The next stop of the 2011 MILO Junior Ball Championship is the Central Region this Friday March 11 at the Hoops Care Academy basketball court.
