Ridge were in an awesome form during the one-day tourney at the Aviation Social Centre on Saturday March 19 until their final game against perennial rivals Air Force condemned them to another defeat in two weeks.
With inspirational display from chief handler Kofi Aboagye during the group phase, many thought the Ridge Church team could not be taking lightly after all.
They started on a blistering note- killing off competition from Central regional champions and one side that was heavily tipped to win the title, Catholic Jubilee 10-8 before they went ahead to book their semi-final ticket at the expense of Burma-camp based Garrison Basic by a comfortable 12-7 victory in front of a charged crowd.
Indeed their semi-final success over Ghana Lebanon Islamic School (GLISS) showed their debut appearance in the Greater Accra competition had made them known the nuances, intricacies and idiosyncrasies of the most prestigious basketball fever among the basic schools in Ghana.
But they fluffed again when it mattered most during the final game as tiredness got the better part of them and their tactician reckons he needs to adopt a plan to obviate future occurrences.
‘It’s quite clear I need to work on their physique because they seem to get tired when it matters most and that’s very worrying. The same thing happened to us during the Greater Accra qualifiers and we need to halt that’. a disappointed Ofori told BASKETBALLghana.com
‘Despite that I still want to say they’ve done well for themselves and made their school proud and hopefully we’ll get another opportunity to correct the wrongs and become a better force next year.
