The University of Cape Coast basketball team have been shell-shocked by Takoradi Polytechnic (T’Poly) in the opening day of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) basketball championship.
The losing finalist at last year’s Ghana Polytechnics basketball championship produced an eye –catching display to beat their opponent 44-33 in a keenly contested game.
Power Forward for T’Poly, Julius was the star man as he silenced the home fans with some daring runs. His physique and leadership quality on the pitch was a delight to watch as it came to bear on the performance of the side.
There was massive inter-positional display at the Nkrumah court and it was clear team spirit and chemistry was at the height of their game.
UCC’s Essel Amoah, Chuku stood tall in the game for the host with an individual brilliance that caught on with the sizeable crowd present.
Meanwhile Hot-favourite the University of Education (UEW) recored a comfortable 46-23 victory over less-fancied Cape Coast Polytechnic in the second game of the day.
It was business as usual for the 2010 GUSA games bridesmaids who dished out a five-star performance to kill off the challenge of their opponent with cheeky ease with chief handler and tormentor Benjamin Debrah in the driving seat. He produced one of his finest performances in recent times to help UEW win handsomely. They meet the host next in a must win encounter for UCC.
