Ahadzi remains coy on his team’s chances

Ashaiman coach Raphael Ahadzi is bidding his time for a historic triumph in the 2011 Community Dunks but does not want to be swollen-headed following his side’s explosive run in the competition.

Ashaiman has emerged as serious contenders for the title after series of roller coaster performances in the hugely popular Under-18 tournament which is in its third year of asking.

The seasoned coach has crafted a formidable squad that has taken this season’s competition by storm with transcendent performances at both the Kaiza and Prisons court at Tema and Cantonment respectively.

The team with an average age of 14 have simply been unstoppable and all-conquering, clearly stating their intentions to win their first ever title, something that would happen with a top-of-the-podium finish at the championship.

While not the overwhelming favourite to clinch the title, the young charges from Ashaiman showed for the second straight day on Saturday that they would be dangerous opponents in the latter stages of the tournament.

Riding a strong defensive effort and getting solid contributions from the bench, Ashaiman kept their noses in front the rest of the way.

“We tried our best to win the game and I am glad we managed to win the two games and qualify to the semi-finals this weekend”. Ashaiman coach Ahadzi told BASKETBALLghana.com in a post match interview.

“I would however admit that we have learned a great lesson from the game and we hope to correct our mistakes in our next game against Dansoman”.

Ashaiman will need to fend off competition from Dansoman to advance to the finals on October 1.
