German Gailing ends three-months visit to Ghana

German coach Jens Gailing remains positive about the future prospect of the game in Ghana after he ended his three-month visit to the country.

Gailing spent the past few months holding basketball clinics for students in the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern and the Ashanti regions as part of plans by Rite Multimedia to expand the frontiers of the game.

He was in Ghana on the invitation of the Accra-based Private event management organization and he brought a lot to bear on players aged between 5-16 as he took them through the basic drills of the game.

After spending 12-weeks in the country, the young coach says he feels fulfilled.

“The past few months have been amazing and I have enjoyed every bit of my stay here in Ghana” Gailing told Yaw Sakyi on The Rundown show on Wednesday night.

“The experience has been great for me and the kids as well and we both have learnt from each other. I believe the future is bright for young basketball players in the country and if they continue to practice, they will go to places”

“It’s a matter of time before the talents are brought to the fore. Of course I should say there are lots for them to learn and with seriousness from themselves and their coaches, they should be up there”

“I want to take the opportunity to thank everybody who made my stay in Ghana a worthwhile and enjoyable especially the guys at Rite Multimedia and my host family. I will forever be grateful and hopefully I will come back sometime next year or two”

Gailing who hails from Ludwigsburg district in Baden Wuerttemberg started out as footballer until he turned 10 when his love and passion for basketball was noticed and therefore abandoned the foot and ladder game.

At age 12, he start playing in the school team, he won the district basketball championship with the school team in the year 2005 and 2006, which got him promoted to the famous BG Tamm / Bietigheim club and enjoyed an incredible five-year stints with them.

He later worked as a coach in the club with direct supervision on the under-12 and under 14- team.
He was part of the Under-20 team of BSG Ludwigsburg that got to the semi-finals of an international basketball tournament in Austria, Vienna.

His arrival was facilitated by Rite Multimedia-leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
