Dansoman boss draws positives

The finals of the 2012 Indomie Community Dunks didn’t end the way coach Ferrani Olulonyo has envisioned, with Dansoman earning a fourth placed finish instead of claiming a spot on the podium.

Sometimes a team has to lose in heartbreaking fashion before scaling the heights – that amplify the story of Dansoman at their fourth appearance in the Under-15 boys’ competition.

They had gone undefeated during the Greater Accra Regional qualifiers and that made them one of the fearsome side going into the grand finale.

But they left the centre court at the El-Wak Stadium empty-handed after they picked the fourth spot following an enthralling defeat to Burma Camp in their third and fourth placed match.

“There is always disappointment when you’re unable to win such tournament but there is nothing we can do,” Olulonyo said

“The boys put up a spirited performance but we were simply not  good on the day. Some controversial decisions here and there but its okay.

“We take defeat in good faith and we will look forward to correcting our mistakes and bounce back next year.

“I was a bit upset after our opening group defeat to Cantonments because we had led and we should have won the game.

“This is what makes the beauty of the sport. There is joy and sometimes it is also cruel.

The finals of this year’s competition did meet the trainer’s expectation in terms of being a spectacular.

It was an experience that he could easily live all over again.

“This is unforgettable and unique to play in the games. There were many special moments which I won’t forget anytime soon,” he said

‘This is the biggest game for players in the communities and we will surely relive these great moments.

“I am proud of my boys. They deserve a pat on the shoulders irrespective of the fact that we didn’t win the ultimate.

It is a great experience, it creates links and friendships.”

Despite finishing at a disappointing fourth, the players exhibited a positive attitude which will eventually inure to the benefit of the team in future.

Their attitude was so positive that it was contagious and many lauded their trainer for instilling such an unbridled mind-set in them.
