Kaneshie have been drawn in Pool B where they tackle powerhouse Ridge, Legon and Tema in the one month-long tournament.

The side’s opening group game is against highly-fancied Ridge at the University of Ghana basketball court on Saturday September 11 and the veteran coach admits the enormity of the task but reckons he has enough arsenals to kill off the challenge of the other teams in the group.

‘We know the opposition is very tough but we’ve been in this sort of situation before and therefore we’ll take on the teams as they come’ Tagoe told basketballghana.com

‘Ridge were second last year and so it tells you how strong the will be. They will be aiming to go a step further and possibly win the title. But they need to first of all contend with us before they begin to think about the ultimate’.

‘I’ve a group of young and hungry young men who are ready to explode and exhibit their talents to the rest of the world and so the competition has really come at an opportune time for them to finally showcase what they’ve got.’ he concluded

Speaking at the first ever screening exercise of the U-18 players ahead of the 2010 edition of Community Dunks on Tuesday evening, the man who also doubles as the head coach of top division side CEPS admonished the players to cease the opportunity and make the best count.

He said the platform been offered to them was so huge that it will be suicidal on their part to take it for granted.

‘This is one hell of an opportunity that most of your seniors didn’t get at your age and so make sure you make the best out of it’. Lawah told the players after the completion of the screening exercise at the Prisons Court, Accra

‘Those of you who will distinguish themselves will graduate into the level and that is when your dream will eventually be realized. It is imperative you offer the best form of respect to your coaches and managers so you will be given the chance to showcase your talents.

He added:’ You’re fortunate these matches will be shown on TV which is a great platform to sell yourself to the rest of the world and be counted among the best in the country. You will never know where your break though will come’. he quizzed.

Over ninety (90) players underwent a rigorous screening exercise at the Prisons Court on Tuesday to select the right age band of the players before the competition gets underway at the University of Ghana basketball court beginning September 11, 2010.

Maha, who won the best player accolade during the maiden edition at the El-Wak stadium last year, believes Coach Daniel Sowah has enough young lads capable of winning the title for the second time in succession.

Cantonment will defend the trophy they won in 2009 when they come up against sides like Ridge, Fadama, Nima, Kaneshie among others in the one-month long basketball championship for U-18 players in some selected communities in the Greater Accra region.

Maha, who cannot take part in this year’s edition because he falls out of the age bracket, wants the side to cease the opportunity to make history.

‘We’ve a good team but they must believe in themselves as they take to the court and do battle. All eyes will be on them as a result of our achievement last year and that is why they must live up to expectations’. Maha told basketballghana

‘In championships like these, one must remain focus and determined to do something for the community they belong and that is why I’m encouraging them to continue from where we left off’.

He added: ‘We’re the champions and any community that wants to unseat us must do more than us and possibly win all matches. But I’m positive the guys will fight to the tilt and not allow the title go on a silver platter’.

The 2010 edition of Community Dunks takes place at the University of Ghana basketball court from Saturday September 11-October 3 (and every other Saturday from 3-8pm)
