Defending champions Cantonment have been shell-shocked in their title defence after a 38-32 defeat to new entrant Teshie-Nungua on Saturday in the much awaited season-2 of Community Dunks.
The debutants were in superb form at the University of Ghana basketball court displaying sheer determination and bravado in killing off the challenge of their opponent who had a lot to prove.
Shooting forward Frank Adoble was once again the chief sniper for the defending champions with three pointers on the day but that wasn’t enough to condemn them to their opening day blip.
Teshie –Nungua shocked fans with some mouth-watering display of great basketball artistry and indeed gave a serious intent of causing a major upset in this year’s championships. Their performance on Saturday shows they could be one of the title contenders – and what a giant killing feat it would be if they land the silverware on October 2.
They took a solid 16-7 lead at the end of the second quarter – but a late come back in the third quarter pegged the points at 28-20 advantage Teshie –Nungua.
They put up a solid defensive network in the penultimate and final quarter to hold on to win 38-32 to send their fans into wild jubilation .
It was evident Coach Daniel Sowah’s charges lacked ideas and the chemistry that helped them triumph last year and as he left the venue, he had many more questions than answers lingering on his mind.
Cantonment’s next game is against Ashaiman who accounted for Maamobi CYCC in the third game of the day.
