2013 Sprite Ball: Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS)

Regarded as one of the finest Senior High Schools in the Eastern Region, the Koforidua Secondary Technical School have continuously demonstrated passion and desire to succeed in the Sprite Basketball Championship over the past three years.

By dint of hardwork and determination ‘Mmarimamma” (sons of men), have over the years contributed immensely to the growth and development of the game.

School authorities have stamped their approval for the competition and have over the years gladly allowed its basketball court to host the Eastern Regional competition.

The brave warriors from Koforidua have not flattened to deceive as others have left the race without even a trace.

There is always much debate within the basketball family in the region as to which school is the best when it comes to the game. The answer has been varied with Pope Johns also staking a claim for being the best in the region.

The Eastern regional Sprite Ball is one of the next strongest, and it’s been interesting of late to note how the traditional powerhouse trio of Koforidua Secondary Technical School, Pope Johns and Akosombo International could potentially fine their dominance more difficult to sustain with a number of other teams trying to plug the gulf in class.

The chasing pack has lifted its collective game considerably, and is now a more potent threat which is making Eastern Regional Sprite Ball incredibly intense and competitive.

The performance of KSTS at the national final over the past three seasons has heightened the threat that they can pose to any team coming into the picture in 2013.

They lost their semi-final contest against eventual winners Mfantsipim by the scruff of the skin and will hope to be lucky this time around.

Unfortunately for KSTS, their string of players like Emmanuel Ekow Amoako, George She, Prince Annan and Paul Sackey will not be available for selection and that should present some headache for their head trainer.

But he should be able to rely on a star-studded roaster that includes Moses, Adjay, Lion and Albert Bruce and one of the sure candidates to cause an upset

Koforidua Secondary Technical School, as we all know, was founded thirty-five years ago. During those years, students have shown individual as well as collective initiatives in order to make the school what it is today.

Society can testify that it has been time well spent, for what has emerged is “Mmarimamma” – a doctor, an engineer, a teacher, an artisan, many of whom are at the forefront of their community.

However, over the years, despite the population growth at the school, the buildings and other facilities have been crumbling and deteriorating.

As concerned “Graduates”, we are confronted with the realities of the inadequate infrastructure of our Alma Mater. This situation clearly affects the standards and quality of education. For that reason, we have initiated a visionary project called “San Behwe Wakyi”(Save Sec-Tech), a plan to rejuvenate the buildings and improve the facilities starting with the Dining Hall.
