The four Universities expected to take part in the special edition of the 2014 UPAC Basketball Championship will be unveiled on Fast Break on TV3, organizers have confirmed.
The unveiling of the participating institutions drawn from the Greater Accra region will be unveiled LIVE on TV’s Fast Break on Sunday November 16 starting from 12:30-3pm.
Fast Break is a two-and-half hour exciting and engaging first ever basketball show on television in Ghana which presents highlights of foreign and local basketball news, providing insight on the fastest growing game in the West African country.
The one-day tournament is being played as a warm-up to the grand UPAC Basketball Championship slated for February 2015. The identity of the four tertiary institutions will be unveiled during Sunday’s Fast Break on TV3 on November 16 with the draw taken place a week later on the same show.
Speaking ahead of the hugely awaited unveiling ceremony, coach of DC Dynamics and a key follower of the game, Feranmi Olulonyo applauded the organizers for the initiate and remains confident the move will enhance the growth and popularity of the game.
“To tell you the truth, basketball in Ghana is on the ascendency. The game is growing rapidly and the special edition of the UPAC Basketball Championship is the perfect tonic for the various teams, “ he posited
“Even though we’re unaware of the teams which will be playing in the mini championship, I believe those who get the nod should represent the real basketball deal at the University level.”
“Past and present achievements, commitment and experience amongst others should be used as the criteria in selecting the teams.”
“I know almost all the schools are anxious to play in this competition and therefore we can only hope that those who are picked will leave up to expectation.
“It’s whole new basketball experience and I’m really looking forward to it. I mean this is the highest basketball level that you can get in Ghana and we can’t wait to see the emerging talents in this country.” he concluded.
It is unclear which of the institutions in the West African country will get the nod to participate in the prestigious special tournament with organizers keeping their cards close to their chest.
The schools will be drawn mainly from the Greater Accra region meaning the likes of Accra Polytechnic, University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Methodist University, Ghana Technology University, Pentecost University, amongst others are all in with a realistic chance of making the top four.
The unknown identity of the four participating teams has left the teams in sheer desperation with apprehension gripping many as they await their fate on their involvement this term.
The one-day mini tournament will take place at the University of Ghana main basketball court, serving as a dress rehearsal to the main UPAC Basketball championship in February next year.
The Special Edition among the four selected tertiary institutions is expected to draw large crowd to the citadel of University basketball in Ghana.
Basketball is back, and there’s plenty to talk about. This year’s UPAC games is expected to be brewed with loads of ingredients such as stress, weather, fun, competition, friendship, bragging efficacy and team unity.
The tournament is being put together by Rite Multimedia- leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
