Marshalls University College male basketball team has begun preparing for the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Competition as they seek improvement on a fourth place showing in last year’s edition of the event.
Last year’s surprise package headed to Jamestown, a coastal suburb of Accra to undergo series of vigorous exercises aimed at improving strength and stamina of players heading into the championship.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, head coach James Okine said:
“Strength conditioning is essential, it is something that every team needs and this is our routine before the tournament. We start here at the beach and we will move to hilly grounds to strengthen ourselves before we start ball drills.”
“We see nobody to be tough in Ghana now, we are going to sweep every team that comes our way” Okine said when asked about his team’s chances of performing well in this year’s edition.
The 2016 UPAC Baketball Championship will run from February 27 to April 16 have 28 tertiary institutions from eight regions compete.
