Garden City University College will make yet another appearance at the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship which will take place between March 5 and April 16. This year’s championship is headlined by top selling deodorant brand Rexona.

Preliminary games begin on Saturday with Zone A games involving Pentecost University College, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Ho Polytechnic and Ghana Technology University College (Accra).
Garden City will make its’ third appearance in the championship following successive stints in the tournament since its’ inception in 2011. However, the institution is yet to make a major impact in the tournament after failing to qualify in consecutive years and this is the main reason behind the institution’s hard line intent on changing the status quo.

The institution will be put through their paces by playing an all star game against Ghana Technology University College (Kumasi) ahead of Zone D games where the team will line up against the latter, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science (KNUST) and Technology and Kumasi Polytechnic.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Akosua, a team representative was confident the team will change the dire fortunes of the institution in Ashanti region basketball. She lamented the institution’s lack of a basketball court which means the team has to train at distant places far from the campus.

Conversely, she was adamant that despite the challenges her side will dethrone and Kumasi Polytechnic as lords of basketball in the region.

Zone D games will take place on March 19. The group winner qualifies to the quarter final stage of the competition.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports.
