University of Ghana (UG) takes on neighbors Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in a headline game on the first day of quarter final games of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The games will be played at Accra Polytechnic on April 14 and will also have tough match ups between debutants University of Energy and Natural Resources and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Zone E champions Takoradi Polytechnic will take on Marshalls University College as University of Development Studies-Tamale takes on defending champions Accra Polytechnic in the day’s other quarter final games.
The pairings were made during a live telecast of premium basketball program “Fast Break” hosted by Yaw Sakyi Afari on Ghana television channel TV3. GIMPA veteran Point Guard Jake Morrison and DC Dynamics Coach and ace basketball pundit, Feranmi Olulonyo were present during the announcement.
Reacting to the fixture, Morrison was wary of the threat University of Ghana posed to GIMPA’s title aspirations as he considered the reigning GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) Basketball Champions as “ahead” of GIMPA in many facets of the game.
The second day of quarter final games, semi finals and final game will be played at the University of Ghana where two-time winners Accra Polytechnic will seek to be to defend its’ title for a second time.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
