Director of Sports of the University of Ghana (UG) Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu believes he is steering the prestigious institution in the right direction; declaring he is on course.
He made the bold statement in an interview with Basketballghana.com following UG’s dominant win in the All Africa University Games basketball competition earlier this month.
“If you want to win then you have to do something extra ordinary. It (the win) also tells me that sometimes it is very difficult to be the best because I had to change the technical team of this team because I realized things were not working properly. It just tells me I am on course” he said.
Since taking over the reins, the educationist has successfully steered Ghana’s premier University to monumental achievements and launched an innovative “Sports Fund” to sustain such massive feats chalked. Host Yaw Sakyi Afari acknowledging the need to encourage such innovative measures presented a cheque worth 1000 Ghana Cedis as his contribution to the fund.
2016 will go down as a memorable year for University of Ghana’s Male Basketball Team as the team won three major trophies including the GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) and UPAC (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) basketball championships.
On Sunday, Dr. Bello and some members of the winning side guest starred on premium Ghanaian basketball television show “Fast Break” where they shared some experiences playing in the international multi disciplined sports event.
A press conference will be held at the institution’s Sports Directorate on Tuesday July 12 at 9:30 GMT.
