In light of the massive success chalked by the University of Ghana’s Male Basketball Team, Director of Sports for the University, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu has brushed aside statements suggesting his outfit is discriminatory.

He made the statement in an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com following a press conference was organized by the institution to celebrate massive strides made in sports since the turn of the year.

“No we do not discriminate against any team, we are giving the support that any team needs and the basketball ladies team is not an exception. We are all (the Sports Directorate) prepared to support all teams on campus” he said.

He also stated female student athletes were admitted via University of Ghana’s Policy on the Admission of Athletes Students (UG-PAAS) and some members of the basketball team were admitted based on the policy.

Unlike its male contemporary, who has dominated Ghana and Africa this year, UG’s Female Basketball Team has failed to replicate such successes.

The team underachieved in the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games after it got slapped with sanctions over fielding an unqualified player; which Dr. Bello found preposterous since GUSA’s technical board could not precisely define who a qualified player was.

The Male Basketball Team has had a wonderful year winning basketball competitions in the GUSA, UPAC (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) and All Africa University Games respectively.
