2016 Ghana Basketball Awards Coach of the Year nominee Lawrence Ampiah is extremely confident of winning the award after stating he win “hands down”. The prestigious annual award will take place on August 12 at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Ghana’s capital; Accra.

Speaking exclusively to Basketballghana.com, the head coach of reigning Sprite Ball Champions St. Augustine’s College, sounded ebullient on his chances of winning the ultimate coaching prize at the high school level.

“My chances are very high in the sense that to beat the champions (Mfantsipim School) this year was not a joke and I have the confidence that I will win hands down” he said.

Under the guidance of Ampiah, St. Augustine’s College emerged winners of the 2016 Sprite Ball Championship after beating eternal rivals Mfantsipim School 37-22 in the final game. The win ended Mfantsipim’s dream of winning the coveted championship for a record fifth time.

Augustine’s triumph culminated in the soft spoken trainer being voted Coach of the Tournament. He has been nominated alongside Prince Adarkwah of Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion High School and Isaac Kobina Mensah of Mfantsipim School.

Starting Center Dennis Dugbenu has also been nominated in the High School Male Player of the Year category.
