NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo has applauded the efforts of soon to be 2016 NBA Hall of Fame inductee Allen Iverson for his outstanding career in the league.

Iverson will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on September 9 alongside other stars including Shaquille O’Neal, Yao Ming and Michigan State University Men’s Basketball Team Coach Tom Izzo.

In an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com, the record four time Defensive Player of the Year winner raved about his former teammate who will have his name immortalized next month. He said:

“I congratulate you so much for making it into the Basketball Hall of Fame but the reason you deserve that Allen is because you are one of the best…basketball players ever to play this game. There is not many guys that will come to the court with your size that can perform like you do. I applaud you…you deserve this award”.

The 7 foot 2 inch Center Mutombo paired with the 6 foot Iverson at the Philadelphia Sixers to win the Eastern Conference but lost 1-4 to Los Angeles Lakers in the 2001 Finals Series against O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

Both men (Mutombo and Iverson) played at Georgetown University before getting drafted into the NBA in 1994 and 1996 respectively.
