Credible reports reaching Basketballghana.com suggests 2016 Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I Champions and Ghana’s representative at the FIBA Zone Three Africa Championship, Braves of Customs, is set to miss out on the competition .

The tournament which begins later today in Togo’s capital, Lome will run to October 30 as teams from West African countries battle for qualification spots to the main Club Championship. By winning last season’s title, Braves were expected to leave the country to represent the nation but with mere hours before tipoff, the team is still in Ghana.

“We are not going” was the answer Basketballghana.com gathered after contacting a member of the Braves contingent who did not want his identity revealed. The team looked set to compete in the tournament with Coach Lawal Brimah stating they were ready to compete at the international level in an interview following his side’s 67-52 win over
Tema Youth in the just ended season.

This means Ghana will not be represented at the Zone Three Championship after Tema confirmed their non participation mere minutes after the final game of the season.

Clubs from Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast among others will converge in Lome to partake in the championship. Kano Pillars and First Bank (both from Nigeria) are the defending champions.
