Reigning Sprite Ball Champions Opoku Ware School (OWASS) is set to have a major facelift on its basketball court get as reward for winning the tenth anniversary edition of the Sprite Ball Championship.

Prominent alumni Rodney Nkrumah Boateng made the announcement when members of the winning team made an appearance on trendy basketball TV show “Courtside” on Ghana channel Kwese Free Sports.

Also present were members of the team’s playing and technical departments respectively.

According to the legal practitioner, the school’s court will see major upgrade in the coming months with improved lighting, fiber glass backboards and seats for spectators have been earmarked to be tackled first.

He also disclosed several arrangements are being made to appropriately reward the entire team for its remarkable achievement.

By winning the Championship (OWASS) became the first school from Ashanti Region to win the competition’s boys division; Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School was the first team to do so in 2010.

The team won the regional championship before going on an unbeaten run to win the title. The side beat record winners Mfantsipim School 27-25 to claim its first ever Sprite Ball title.

Sprite Ball is Ghana’s most prestigious high school basketball championship and Wesley Girls High School won the girls’ division.

Courtside airs on Sundays between 14:00 and 16:00 GMT.
