Games in the 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Zone C tips off with host University of Cape-Coast (UCC) taking on town rival Cape-Coast Technical University (CCTU).
This is the second straight year UCC opens the preliminary group’s round of fixtures against CCTU and will be hoping for another win over its cross town rival.
Takoradi Technical University (TTU) and University of Education-Winneba (UEW) are the remaining members of the zone and will play in the second fixture of the day.
Only the winner of the zone qualifies to the quarter finals which is slated for April 6 and 7 in Accra; debutant All Nations University College has booked a spot in the quarters after topping Zone B.
TTU beat UCC 49-46 to qualify from the zone in last year’s edition en roué to placing fourth at the national games. University of Ghana is the reigning champions.
The UPAC is Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball competition and is organized by award winning sports firm Rite Sports Limited in partnership with financial giant EcoBank and telecommunications hub MTN.
