Nigeria leads way in rankings ahead of 2017 Women’s AfroBasket

This year’s Women’s African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) tips off Friday August 18 in Bamako, Mali and is expected to end on August 27.

Ahead of the competition, world governing body FIBA has released the final list of rankings for the 12 team roster due to compete for honors.

Power house Nigeria leads the way with side naming its final roster for the Championship recently after naming Sam Vincent as Head Coach. Team Manager Mfon Udoka was with the D’Tigress the last time Nigeria won the continental Championship over a decade ago.

Host nation Mali checks in at number two on the list a spot ahead of third placed Senegal. The defending champions round up a West African filled top three with Egypt fourth.

Mozambique and Angola occupy fifth and sixth place respectively but Tunisia and Democratic Republic of Congo are tied in seventh place.

2015 silver medalist Cameroon ranks 10th behind ninth placed Ivory Coast after falling twice to the latter in Abidjan. Guinea and Central African Republic occupy the final spots in the rankings.
