Tema Community 4 has emerged winners of this year’s Tema Basketball League Under 19 Tournament courtesy a 46-39 win over Nungua Youngings in the final game played earlier tonight.
The three stage competition has been held at Tema Community 4’s Court over the past weeks honing the talent of young players in Ghana’s capital.
Community 4 led through the first half courtesy an 18-15 lead but struggled to completely put away highly rated Nungua as C4’s lead improved by a point heading to the final quarter.
However, a hot start from C4 Guard Prince Akaba stretched its lead to 10 (42-32) before a Sydney Larbie led onslaught from Nungua late on close the gap.
C4 held on in the final minutes to clinch the win and trophy. For his outstanding play, Akaba was named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
Tema Community 12 edged out Tema West in the bronze medal game played before the final game; C12 won the tie 29-28 in an emotionally charged game that had a couple of players ejected.
