Reformers, Spartans fall in consecutive ABL games this week

Galaxy (blue) clinched the win over brothers Spartans.

Junior Reformers and Spartans have fallen for the second time in consecutive fashion this week in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division II.

Both lost games played in the last round at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu in midweek with Reformers losing 54-66 to CYO and Spartans losing 41-45 to Galaxy in the Tudu Derby.

Neither went into those matchups in a winning form as the two sides had lost in the previous round; Junior Rangers beat Junior Reformers 71-63 while Spartans got outclassed by veteran side Panthers.

Like previous games, Reformers threatened several times in the second half to take the game’s lead but missed out on the chance to close the deficit and eventually take the lead.

A strong start in the final quarter which had Guard Isaac Ollenu scoring two straight layups and three more shots from the free throw line got dwarfed by CYO for the win.

The Tudu Derby took a while get fans excited and engaged with Spartans registering its first point in the game with almost five minutes played. Despite the slow start, the team worked back into the game to lead 40-39 with three minutes remaining before a late Galaxy surge had Spartans lost for the fifth time.
