Big names Accra Academy and St. Mary’s Senior High School will not compete in this year basketball qualifiers in the Greater Accra Region after failing to progress from the zonal competition.

The qualifiers takes place on Saturday December 9 at the University of Professional Studies and PRESEC-Legon to determine representatives of the region at the next Sprite Ball Championship.

Ghana’s High School Basketball Tournament takes place at the El Wak Stadium from January 4-6, 2018 with Opoku Ware School and Wesley Girls High School as defending champions in the boys and girls divisions respectively.

However, neither Accra Academy nor St. Mary’s will get the chance to dethrone the winners of the last edition since both will not compete on Saturday.

St. Mary’s misses out on a strong field of eight teams containing teams like Accra Wesley Girls, Sacred Heart Senior High and Labone Senior High School.

Accra Academy will not feature in the male division which has the likes of St. Thomas Aquinas, Host PRESEC-Legon, PRESEC-Osu and former winners Armed Forces Senior High Technical School competing.

This means Accra Academy misses out on another opportunity to improve its record the last time it featured in the competition where the team recorded heavy losses including a 4-32 loss to Mfantsipim School.
