Ampong and Yussif square up.

Wesley Girls High School has lost the opening game in the female division of the Sprite Ball Championship falling to Accra Wesley Girls High School.

In the battle of the Wesley Schools, Accra came out on top courtesy a 23-20 win over the Cape-Coast based side in the maiden girls game.

Defending champions Wesley Girls has got its title defense off to a bad start; the last time the team played at the competition, it beat Kumasi Girls High School to lift the trophy for a record third time.

Avenging a stinging loss in the last edition, Accra Wesley Girls fell in the early minutes of the matchup on Wesley Girls Point Guard Eno Ampong’s long two point shot.

However, the Accra side warmed into the game and clinched a 14-9 first half win with conversions from Ruth Atibila and lanky Center Maamata Yussif.

Despite losing Yussif to foul trouble, Accra Wesley managed to see out the game to clinch the win; beaten finalist at the last edition of the championship, Kumasi Girls, take on St. Mary’s Senior High School.
