Ghana’s Wheelchair Basketball Team-the Black Chariots- could be using neatly styled bamboo wheelchairs for competitions in the future.

This is due to the manufacturing of the bamboo chairs in recent times drawing rave reviews as an effective alternative to the widely used metallic piece.

The Bright Generation Community Foundation and Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative product has been designed to address the needs of physically challenged persons including members of Ghana’s national side.

Ghana Captain Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe tested the chair and was satisfied with the functionality of the chair in game situations.

This initiative could be the next step in developing the sport which has been at mercy of neglect and financial challenges.

Ghana’s Male side qualified to compete in South Africa for a spot at the World Cup but failed to make the trip due to its inability to raise $100,000 to cover their expenses for 14 days.

The team has attracted the ire of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation for failing to show up.
