The 2018 Accra Basketball League (ABL) season will commence on Wednesday March 11 Basketballghana.com can confirm.

Prior to the announcement from the ABL Board, the upcoming season was set to tipoff on Wednesday March 21 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu.

With mere hours remaining to commencement, ABL General Secretary Marcel Avadu issued a statement to announce the postponement.

“I wish to officially inform the basketball fraternity that due to circumstances beyond our control, the executive committee in consultation with all other stakeholders concerned, have decided to postpone the commencement of the ABL from 21st March, 2018 to 11 April, 2018” the statement convened.

Reports indicate the heavy presence of ABL players in the upcoming Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship zonal competitions is a big reason behind the change in date.

UPAC Zones 6, 7 and 8 games will played in Accra on March 22, March 24 and March 29; Zone 6 will be held at Accra Technical University while Zones 7 and 8 will be held at University of Ghana.
