Newly crowned Mauritania Basketball League Champions Etoile Du Nord have taken aim at making an appearance at the Africa Club Championship.

The North African club has grand plans to compete in this year’s tournament which is set to take place in the last quarter of 2018.

Etoile must first qualify from Zone 2 and the team’s aim has taken on national proportions with Mauritania Federation President ready to support the course.

Federation President Youssof Fall sees Etoile’s prospective participation in Africa’s flagship tournament as a way to announce his country’s return to top flight basketball on the continent.

“We think it’s the right time to keep some continuity at international level, that’s the reason why we are planning to help Etoile du Nord take part in the FIBA ACC 2018” Fall said.

Etoile beat El Mina-Jane 52-50 to clinch the trophy. The Africa Club Championship features 12 teams with top teams from various zones participating. AS Sale of Morrocco won the 2017 edition after topping Etoile of Tunisia.
