This is in line with Ghana’s first tertiary institution’s recently inducted policy on the admission of student athletes who standout in various sports disciplines.
Dubbed the UG-PAAS, the policy was introduced a couple of years back by UG Director of Sports Dr. Bello Bella Bitugu as part of reforms to get UG back to the summit of sporting excellence in Ghana.
Potential Student Athletes will be taken through drills in basketball, handball, athletics, cricket, rugby, table tennis, netball, football among others.
Top performing athletes will be drafted to the institution and respective teams to participate in competitions such as the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games.
Introducing UG-PAAS and Sports Fund played a key role in Dr. Bitugu winning this year’s Liquid Ghana Sports Awards Leadership Prize.
Largely down to UG-PAAS, the institution’s Male Basketball Team has improved markedly winning three straight Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championships.
