West Africa powerhouse Senegal owns a new state of the art arena fit to host international basketball games for several upcoming years.
The new edifice is an internationally standardized 15,000 seating capacity arena built in Senegal’s capital, Dakar and was officially opened by President Macky Sall.
This arena comes at a time Senegal is preparing to play games African qualifiers to the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Lagos, Nigeria.
The round of qualifiers will be played next month with host Nigeria, Ivory Coast and surprise package Central African Republic featuring.
Prior to the construction of the arena, there had been concerns raised about Tunisia hosting multiple events including the 2015 and co hosting the 2017 African Championship respectively.
With the addition of the Dakar Arena, Senegal is in line to host a large number of international games including subsequent 2019 World Cup qualifiers next year.
The facility is fitted with top playing surfaces for multiple sports disciplines including boxing, wrestling, and tennis. After South Africa hosting three straight editions of the NBA Africa Game, the new development puts Senegal in line to host the renowned exhibition game.
