Representatives of the Ashanti Region at the upcoming Sprite Ball Championship in January, 2019 have been decided with qualifiers concluding recently at the Our Lady of Grace Senior High School in Mamponteng.

Four schools have qualified to participate in Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition with two schools in the boys and girls divisions respectively.

Opoku Ware School (OWASS) and Prempeh College are representing in the Boys Division following OWASS’s 26-21 win in the final game.

OWASS successfully defended its regional title with the win after beating Prempeh in last year’s regional final Opoku Ware hosted.

In the Girls Division, Kumasi Girls Senior High School repeated as regional champions to qualify and have a shot at defending its national title.

Kumasi Girls topped St. Louis Senior High School in the final game via a 19-12 win after racing off to a 17-3 lead in the first half.

Despite the loss, St. Louis had a great run in the competition and ended its seven wait to play at the Sprite Ball Championship. With the exception of St. Louis, the remaining reps played in the last Sprite Ball.
