Both Egyptian and Angolan clubs participated in this year’s Africa Basketball League have qualified to the Elite 8 stage halfway through the group stage of the competition.

Egyptian sides Al Ahly and Smouha SC secured qualification from Groups C and D respectively as the second best team and the winner.

Angolan clubs Primerio do Agosto and Atletico Petroleos qualified from Groups C and D respectively as winner and second best team.

Atletico and Smouha recently completed Group D games over this past weekend in Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo. Home team Club Omnisports Police Nationale and DR Congo’s AS Mazembe competed in the group.

Unlike Group C, the final group matchup between Smouha and Atletico was to complete the standings since both teams had qualified heading into the third game.

Smouha demolished Omnisport with a 119-50 win and beat Mazembe 78-65 while Atletico beat the same opponents 99-76 and 74-61 respectively.

In the deciding game, Smouha run out 79-62 winners over Petroleos to top the group as Mazembe placed third thanks to a 94-70 win over Omnisport.
