TTU beat University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) 50-21 in the first game of the zone at the Adisadel College in Cape Coast.
Takoradi Technical placed fourth in last year’s competition losing 35-46 to University of Education-Winneba (UEW) in the Bronze medal game.
UMAT suffered right from the start losing 2-19 at the end of the first quarter and pretty much cruised through the rest of the contest.
Tarkwa based side UMAT fought back gallantly in the second quarter and narrowed the deficit to eight points after racking up nine points in the quarter.
UMAT has not progressed to the quarter finals of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition in the competition’s five previous editions and has to beat UEW to stand a chance of topping the zone.
UEW is without influential Point Guard Jeffrey Djimatey in the year’s edition. UPAC 2019 is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
