After missing out on a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, Regent University College of Science and Technology is motivated to avoid a repeat in this year’s Championship.

Regent will compete in Zone 3 alongside Marshalls University College, KAAF University College and Accra Institute of Technology on Saturday, March 16.

The zonal qualifiers are to be played at Regent with the winning institution progressing to the knockout phase of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Regent Captain Gabriel Ashaley stated his team is motivated to go a step further after placing second in the zone.

“Based on how close we were to qualifying last year…we use that as positive energy to push ourselves because we know what it takes to qualify” he said.

Despite stepping in as a late replacement in 2018, Regent won two of three games in the zone to place second behind University of Education-Winneba (UEW) who eventually won Bronze on the national stage.

The 2019 UPAC Championship is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
