Marshalls University College has emerged winner in the opening game in Zone 3 of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The 2017 Silver Medal winners beat Regent University College of Science and Technology 34-28 to cap off a remarkable run in the second half.
Marshalls trailed 4-12 at the end of the first quarter with Regent University storming to a great start. Regent Captain Gabriel Ashaley was impressive in the opening quarter leading his side to the big lead.
Regent struggled to play with the same pace and composure in the subsequent quarters allowing Marshalls a way back in the game.
The host institution committed several turnovers and missed good looks at the rim and headed to the final quarter with the score tied at 24.
Marshalls Captain Anthony Adade and Guard Emmanuel Sarkor led Marshalls charge in the final quarter to build on its momentum and clinch the win.
It is an encouraging start for Marshalls who disappointed in last year’s Championship by crashing out in the preliminary stage.
A win for Marshalls against KAAF University College in the next game seals its place in the quarterfinals.
