African nations drawn in tough groups for 2019 World Cup

The draw for the 2019 FIBA World Cup has concluded with Africa’s representatives drawn in interesting matchups in the preliminary stage of the world competition.

For the first time ever, five countries will represent the continent in the expanded format of the World Cup in China this year.

The draw was held in Shenzhen, China on Saturday with a host of big personalities including World Cup Ambassadors Yao Ming and Kobe Bryant and FIBA President Horacio Muratore grace the occasion.

Ivory Coast was drawn in Group A and has the biggest chance of progressing to the Round of 16 as they prepare to face Poland, Venezuela and China.

2015 African Champions Nigeria is in a tough Group B alongside South Korea, 2004 Olympic Gold medalist Argentina and Russia.

Reigning African Champions Tunisia is in Group C alongside Puerto Rico, Iran and two time Olympic Silver Medalist Spain.

Angola is in Group D alongside Italy, Serbia and Philippines while Senegal is in the Group of Death alongside Lithuania, Australia and Canada in Group H.
