The draw for the 2019 World Cup was held in Shenzhen, China over the weekend and the 32 qualified nations were placed in groups for the preliminary round of the competition that runs from August 31 to September 15.
Ivory Coast was placed in Group A alongside Host China, Poland and Venezuela with all four nations having a shot at progressing beyond the group.
In the aftermath of the draw, Povia stated to FIBA in an interview about his happiness with results from the draw. He said:
“I like and I am happy for the group we are in because these are teams that we can compete against.”
Ivory Coast is one of five African nations in this year’s World Cup. Nigeria, Tunisia, Senegal and Angola have qualified to play in China.
The Elephants was the last team to qualify from Africa after winning the final three games.
