Accra Technical University (ATU) is scheduled to compete in the Zone 6 qualifiers of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship this week.

The two time champions play on Thursday, March 28 against Methodist University College, Kings University College and Valley View University College in the zone.

The winner of the zone qualifies to the quarterfinals which take place on April 11 in Ghana’s capital, Accra. The rest of the knockout phase takes place on April 12 and 13.

Unlike last year where ATU had no GHATUSA (Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association) Games to feature in, the Tudu based institution had one this year.

ATU beat fierce rival Takoradi Technical University (TTU) 38-25 in the GHATUSA Final game in February ahead of the qualifiers.

The team is on track to attempt to clinch a third title and tie University of Ghana (UG)’s title count in Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament.

ATU has played and lost two finals to UG in 2016 and 2018. UG beat ATU 41-36 in last year’s final game.
