Madagascar has been named host of the 2019 FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup Basketballghana.com can confirm.

The upcoming competition main event will take place in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo from December 6 to December 10.

Antananarivo’s Palais de Sports Mahamasima will host the games to crown the winners for this year’s championship with Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique as defending championship.

Maputo beat Angola’s InterClube 59-56 in the 2018 final to win its first ever African title before a raucous home crowd. However, it was Mozambique’s sixth African club championship.

Ferroviario and host nation’s champions-MB2ALL-have automatically qualified to the 2019 edition with 12 teams set to compete.

Ten remaining spots are up for grabs in the qualifiers that commence later this month in zones across the continent including Zone 3.

Ghanaian Champions Ghana Police Service is eligible to compete in the Zone after bagging the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division.

Madagascar has hosted top competitions before after hosting the 2009 Women’s AfroBasket and 2011 AfroBasket Championships.
