Ghana's Braves of Customs competed in BAL qualifiers in 2019

Ghana’s representative in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Braves of Customs has lost its opening game in Group after falling 59-82 to ASPAC from Benin.

Customs lost the matchup to home side ASPAC on Tuesday, October 29 as part of the final round of qualifiers in the preliminary stage.

The top two ranked teams progress to the Elite 16 stage in the maiden edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa joint venture. Five teams are drawn in the group.

Braves got off to a good start taking an 18-15 first quarter lead but lost the remaining quarters to ASPAC who were led Emmanuel Lougbegnon’s game leading 34 points.

Customs was led by Forward Daniel Nii Aryee who scored 18 points converting three of six three point shot attempts, four of six attempts from the field and one of two free throws in 34 minutes.

Shooting Guard Baniba Dodzi added 14 points but no other member of the team scored in double digits. Braves are in action tonight at 14:00 GMT against Pythons from Liberia.

In the same group, Nigelec Basket from Niger lost 68-74 to Abidjan Basket.
