The Western Basketball Association (WBA) Club Championship 2019 season is in its early stages following the conclusion of games recently.

The latest round of matchups in the Championship was played at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) Court in Ghana’s Western Regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi.

Sekondi Bikats suffered a 32-35 loss to Oil City Kings in the opening game while St. John’s beat EffEss 36-28 in the follow up game.

The Championship is organized by the Western Regional Basketball Association and has eight teams competing including the aforementioned quartet.

Oil City Dragons, TTU Oilers, Dark Elite and Viking Warriors complete the list of team competing in the burgeoning Championship. Samuel Abbey of Dark Elite was named MVP for Week One; the MVP for Week 2 is yet to be named.

The WBA Championship forms part of a host of regional based leagues springing up in Ghana in recent times. The GSP and Kumasi Basketball Leagues are played in Sunyani and Kumasi respectively.

Basketballghana.com understands there are plans to have a national championship featuring various league winners in the coming years.
