Basketballghana.com can confirm four teams will compete in the “I support Gerald” Tournament this weekend at the University of Ghana (UG) Main Court on Sunday, February 9.

The tournament has been put together to support Nungua Coldstore player Gerald Sappor who has been diagnosed with Leukemia recently.

The competition is to raise awareness about the blood related illness and raise funds to support what is likely to be an extensive treatment for Sappor.

The young athletic Power Forward has played key roles for Coldstore and UG-prior to his graduation- and helped both teams to win the Tema Community Basketball League and UPAC titles respectively.

Coldstore, UG and All Star Teams from Accra and Tema respectively will compete in the tournament which tips off at 15:00 GMT with celebrated Ghanaian Politician John Dumelo set to speak at the event.

Sappor has missed Coldstore’s ongoing playoff run due to the illness; Nungua has qualified to the Tema League finals after beating Tema Rockets (2-1) in the semifinal series.
