Basketballghana.com can confirm the winning team of the first ever Basketball Africa League (BAL) is to be determined after 26 games at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
This was communicated in the official announcement of the continental championship’s commencement date; the BAL is set to run from May 16 to May 30.
The 12 participating teams are to be drawn into three groups with each group containing four teams and each team is expected to play each other once.
The top eight ranked teams progress to the playoffs where a single game elimination format will determine winners of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final game.
Originally planned to commence in March 2020 with games played across cities on the African continent, the BAL was postponed multiple times due to the corona virus pandemic.
The competition format has been altered to accommodate participating teams that are set to compete in a bubble-like environment.
The BAL is a partnership between the NBA and FIBA Africa and the league is the NBA’s first outside North America.
