Ghana’s Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Yusif has stated his willingness to make a case to government to lift the ban on sports in Universities.
He shared this desire when he met Executives of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) to discuss matters on sports development through Ghana’s education system.
The GUSA Executives were led by Association President Shaibu Tanko Ibrahim who pointed out GUSA’S contribution to sports development in the West African country through scholarship schemes for student-athletes.
In his address to the Executives, the Minister urged them to “increase their visibility” and “promote activities” they are engaged and added his readiness to make a case to Ghana’s government to lift the ban on sports in universities.
Due to the emergence of the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020, sports across all levels in the educational system was banned and the ban is still in force.
The biannual GUSA Games were held prior to the ban with University of Ghana topping in the Men’s and Women’s Basketball competitions.
