Another game, another win for Reformers of Prisons in the 2021 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I Regular Season.
Earlier today at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Reformers produced a strong late effort to ink a 76-67 win over Tema Youth Basketball Club.
While the game had its fair share of questionable refereeing decisions on some calls and other non calls, it didn’t hinder fans from enjoying a very competitive match.
Abraham Allotey and Nii Moi scored for either team to start the game. Reformers jumped to an 8-2 lead with 6:41 minutes left after getting points off turnovers from James Amotoe and Abdul Aziz.
Tema got a point from David Pinto and a three pointer from Mark Mensah. Amotoe and Allotey put more points on the board. Tema’s Prince Gyamfi tied the game at 12 from three point range
Gyamfi put Tema in front with another deep shot. Aziz tied the game at 15 2:35 minutes into the second quarter by working inside and hitting a jumper. Nana Kwame Adjei scored for Reformers as the teams exchanged game leads with Amotoe pulling off a behind the back move before laying the ball in.
Allotey delivered another highlight moment for Reformers with a dunk on a fast break. Tema took a 33-25 first half lead by getting three pointers from Brian Kwami, Mensah and Gyamfi.
Gyamfi scored nine points in the third quarter to lead Tema to a 51-42 lead; Nii Moi scored a tough jumper in the process. Allotey closed the deficit to four points (35-39) earlier in the quarter with a couple of dunks and strong defensive plays on Mensah.
Reformers got fastbreak points to trail 52-55 with 5:48 minutes remaining in the game. Allotey and Amotoe combined for five points to put Reformers up 57-55.
Mensah tied it at 57 by burying all two free throws and Pinto scored a free throw to put Tema up 58-57. Allotey and Amotoe combined again to put Prisons up 62-58 with 3:54 minutes remaining.
Gyamfi scored a three pointer and Pinto scored inside for Tema to regain the lead. Nii Ayi Mensah made a key steal and assisted Allotey to give Reformers a 68-63 lead with two minutes left before an injury forced him to exit the game.
Nii Moi scored a late three but it wasn’t enough as Adjei scored the final points to give Reformers the win. Reformers scored points down the stretch to seal the win.
