Basketballghana.com can report Rwanda Energy Group (REG) has topped the Sahara Conference following the conclusion of games played out at the Dakar Arena in Senegal.

The team sealed top place in the standings after bagging a 94-89 win over Ferroviario Beira from Mozambique; that win came after a crucial 77-74 win over hitherto unbeaten Tunisian side US Monastir.

Despite having a lower goal difference compared to Monastir, REG’s three point win over last year’s finalist ensured the Rwandan side topped the Conference.

Beira and DUC Dakar have missed out on qualifying to the next stage of the tournament to be held at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda from May 21 to May 28.

Monastir, AS Sale from Morocco and SLAC from Guinea join REG in the next stage; games in the Nile Conference are to be played in Cairo, Egypt from April 9 to April 19.

After a slow start, AS Sale picked up crucial wins in the final stretch to record three wins in five games and finish third in the standings.

Sale Coach Liz Mills continues to make history as she becomes the first Female to lead a team to the Knockout stage of the NBA-FIBA Africa competition.
