Peñarol Mar del Plata opened the 2010-2011 season of the Argentinian National League by dominating Boca Juniors 87-61 in a game played at Boxing Club of Río Gallegos.

The team from Mar del Plata started the game with some impressive shooting as Marcos Mata connected from long range before Joe Shipp took over, accounting for nine of the team’s first 16 points. The first quarter ended 23-14 in favor of Peñarol.

Boca had problems from three-point territory as they missed their first 10 attempts and offensively couldn’t get anything going. Peñarol stuck to their fluid offense and it paid off as they finished the first half up 43-23.

The imports of Boca were never a factor and Peñarol had their best offensive performance in the third quarter, scoring 28 points and they never looked back.

Shipp had 25 points in the win, with Mata adding 14 and Martín Leiva added 13.

Sebastián Vega paced Boca with 15 points, Mariano Fierro had a dozen while Scott Cutley and Fernando Martina finished with 10 each.
